Tell us about your love story!
We met through mutual friends in year 10, our friendship continued to grow and at the end of year 11 we started officially going out. Six years had passed and then on one very special evening, we went out for a romantic dinner followed by ice-cream and a walk along the beach which is where Dean asked me to be his wife.
Describe what marriage means to you.
Marriage to me is a commitment you make to the love of your life and best friend. It’s building a life and a family with my best friend and also having someone to share life’s up’s and down’s.
The wedding location.
We got married at the Batesford Hotel in Victoria. When we were searching for venues as soon as we visited the Batesford Hotel we knew it was the place we were going to get married as it had lovely green gardens, a beautiful river with an old bluestone bridge and a relaxed atmosphere. About 6 months to our wedding we were devastated to wake one morning to the news that a historic pub in Geelong has been burnt down… the Batesford Hotel!
We had numerous meetings with the manager of the Batesford and they were 90% sure that they could re-build the hotel in time for our wedding but could not guarantee 100% that it would be finished. This was a stressful time for us as we didn’t know whether we should think with our hearts and stay at the Batesford or think with our heads and find plan B. Our families were very concerned that it wouldn’t be finished on time and told us we should find a new venue as soon as we could. But Dean and I had trust in the manger and took a gamble and stayed at the Batesford as we knew we really wanted our ceremony and reception there.
Over the Christmas holiday we were very concerned that our venue would not be ready as it was not progressing as fast as what we were told and we actually were in the process of looking for a plan B. But thankfully on the 27th January we had confirmation that the Batesford Hotel will be ready by the 4th of March, however the kitchen will not be completed. This was something that Dean and I were willing to compromise on as we could still have our dream wedding that we had been planning for the past 2 years at the Batesford!
The tradesmen and the staff worked in overdrive right up to the day before wedding but on our wedding day they defiantly pulled it off and it looked AMAZING! We were so glad that we thought with our hearts and stayed with the Batesford as it was perfect.
The theme of your wedding.
Our wedding theme was rustic with a color scheme of navy and coral.
The bride’s dress.
My dress was a beautiful lace and tulle A-Line with a sweetheart neckline, with a beautiful bodice. When Dean first saw me in my dress, he got emotional and was trying to hide his tears. He said I looked amazing and beautiful, but his expression said it all.
Ceremony & reception.
We had our ceremony and reception at the Batesford Hotel. It was lovely as guest didn’t have to travel and got to enjoy the afternoon in the garden. We served canapes and drinks to our guest while we had photos, and also provided lawn games which were really fun.
I walked down the aisle to ‘A Thousand Years’- Panino Guys
Signing the registry ‘True Colors’ – Justin Timberlake
We walked out to ‘Love Me Like You Do’- Ellie Goulding
Our introduction song was ‘I Love You Always Forever’- Donna Lewis
Our first dance was to ‘Kiss Me’- Ed Sheeran, we had lessons, as we wanted to do something special
Father daughter dance ‘Because You Loved Me’- Celine Dion
Food, food, food!
We had canapés in the garden while we had photos. As the kitchen at our venue was not rebuilt, we had a rotisserie which was fantastic. There was so much food, and got great comments of how it was such a good idea as everyone got to choose what they wanted and so much variety. For dessert we had our wedding cake.
Most memorable moment.
For me it was walking down the aisle and seeing Dean’s reaction when he first saw me. Dean doesn’t normally cry, so to see him get emotional and the look in his eye, I will never forget that moment.
What about the extra details?
We included our puppy, Ollie, in our wedding as our ring bearer, it was a surprise to our guest and he did his job perfectly he got a lot of ‘AWWWWW’s’. It was also really nice to get professional photos with him as he is a member of our family.
What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
Don’t worry about the little stuff, you actually don’t even notice it on the day and no one else knows that it’s wrong or is missing.
Favourite love quote.
I love you for all that you are, all that you have been, and all you’re yet to be.
What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?
Being able to build a life and a family together. Waking up next to him every morning and going to bed with him every night.
