Our love story began…

We met when we were 11 years old. We went to the same Martial Arts club and were quick to become friends. The connection was instant even at that age. We were each other’s first relationship and here we are 13 years later.

The proposal was…

Mitch is ‘fly in fly out’ worker. He was due to arrive home on Valentine’s Day 2017. We never really celebrated the day to any great extent so I had no expectation of something so special. Mitch came home after his two week stint at work with a single long stem rose and a box of chocolates. I in exchange had chocolates waiting for him. We stuffed ourselves full of chocolate for the afternoon and sat down to watch a movie for the evening. Mitch came into the room with two Kinder Surprise Eggs. (Children’s chocolate with a small container inside that has a toy in it). He handed me one and I was full to the brim with chocolate so I threw it on the couch and walked away to do something else. I came back after a few minutes or so and decided I could squeeze some more chocolate in. Mitch opened his container from his egg and said “These toys are crap”. I offered him mine but he subtly insisted I open it myself. Confusion, tears and happiness set in as he got down on one knee and proposed.

We wanted our wedding to be…

We wanted our wedding to be “us”. We didn’t want certain bells and whistles that other people might find important. Our Venue was somewhere that we hadn’t seen anyone else get married at which appealed to us. We didn’t know a lot about it until we went for a viewing and then we fell in love with it. The chapel itself is very old and stunning to look at and it just felt right. On top of that the owners were so lovely and helpful.

My dress was…

My Nan and I were just going to Luv Bridal Maroochydore for a browse. There was no intention of buying on the day as it was my first look at any dresses. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by Tracey. We gave her a rough idea on budget and I basically listed what I DIDN’T want in a dress. I tried on about 9 dresses that day. The last dress being a dress that Tracey had said to me that she understood I didn’t want strapless but she pictured me in the dress and asked if I would give it a go. I’m glad I agreed to listen to her professional opinion because she got it so right. When I stepped out in front of the mirror wearing the Brighton I felt beautiful. I have a very petite figure and I felt womanly wearing it. I burst into tears, my Nan burst into tears and it was very obvious it was the dress for me. I didn’t think twice. On my wedding day I couldn’t wait to wear it. Even having my hair and makeup done I didn’t feel complete until I was in the dress. Mitch said it was perfect, everybody said it was perfect.

The best moment of the day…

In reflection my favourite part was probably going to have our photos just Mitch and I. It was raining and muddy but it was just a good laugh and a good chance to calm down from all the hype of the ceremony. It was nice to have everyone we love together to celebrate and to hear how much love and support we had for our big day.

The soundtrack to our big day was…

We wanted something different, not something you hear at weddings all the time lately. We chose songs that aren’t on the mainstream radio stations at the moment. Shania Twain – From This Moment to walk down the aisle. Our first dance was You and Me by Lifehouse. Songs that we both just felt they were accurate and we both love. We had a few people tell us that the Shania Twain song evoked so much emotion in them at the ceremony as well.

We’d like to give a special mention to…

Our photographers and videographer have to have special mention for getting out in the rain and mud to get the perfect shots for us. Mallory Sparkles Photography and Forever Features Videography – so grateful! Mallory, Des and Tyrone remained so positive and upbeat and we were so happy they were there.

The love quote that resonates most with us as a couple is…

“For home is where the heart is. And my heart is anywhere you are” – Elvis Presley.

Being in a relationship where Mitch is away half the time for work is challenging and I guess this is why this resonates.

One unusual thing about our big day was…

Even though it’s becoming more popular having our dog at our ceremony was probably the most unusual thing we did. We paid the vendor ‘First Class Pet Wedding Assistants’ (http://www.firstclasspetweddingassistants.com.au/) to bring him and it was well worth it. He wasn’t 100% well behaved but it made our day even more special and unique.

Starting a family.

The best advice we can give to other couples about to get married is…

It’s so vital to keep the two of you at the top of the list of people to keep happy. Make sure you make it everything you want because at the end of the day you don’t want any regrets – you only do it once! We would have loved to not have rain on our wedding day but that’s something you can’t control and we just had to make the most of it and loved our day regardless. Don’t let things you can’t change upset you on such a happy occasion. A must have is a good support network for the day for any last minute must dos or unforeseen circumstances.
