Kathryn & Zach

27.07.19

NUMBER OF GUESTS: 26

Our love story began…

As high school sweethearts. Two close friends that started dating at 16. We have been together over 11 years. 11 years full of adventures.

The proposal was…

In Tokyo, Japan! Our favourite holiday destination. He proposed at the top of the Tokyo Skytree, aka the 2nd tallest tower in the world at 634 metres high, overlooking the bright lights of Tokyo, with an amazing Vera Wang Love ring.

We wanted our wedding to be…

Intimate, but another incredible adventure! It is very us to do something completely out of the ordinary. We have a love for snow, so Queenstown, New Zealand is the perfect destination. We love it there. Being overseas, everything had to be planned via email and phone call, but we picked the perfect vendors who made every detail perfect, and as stress free as possible. Our vision was a picturesque ceremony, which was executed thanks to The Canyons Lodge, the amazing shotover river was in the background of our vows. Flowers and décor were what my dreams were made of thanks to The Flower Room. Our ceremony was crazy in the best way possible. We hired out the entire AJ Hackett Kawarau Bridge Bungy Centre (we are both lovers of bungy jumping!) and did a bride & groom tandem bungy jump. Our guests even bungy jumped or took a zipline ride as part of our reception. The last must have was to have a photo shoot in the incredible mountains of Queenstown. Holly Wallace Photography & Heliworks Helicopters made that possible. Being on top of Cecil Peak was surreal, and the photos are breathtaking. Hard to believe this was all real.

My dress was…

I had been eyeing the ‘Carris’ dress by Mia Solano (vintage rose) for a while, before even planning our wedding. I had pinned it on Pinterest and liked it on Instagram. That vintage rose colour is what I always leaned towards. I have never wanted a white dress. I went into the Adelaide City Luv Bridal Store, with an intention of trying on a few different dresses, just in case. I tried on about 5, but I put on the ‘Carris’ and it was love. My friends and family there with me also agreed that it was an instant, yes!
When my husband first saw it, he thought it was incredible, and was very much ‘me’.

The best moment of the day…

There were so many moments that took my breath away. My father’s loving words before walking me down the aisle. My husband smiling, while standing under an archway with the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen.
The sheer thrill of tandem bungy jumping with my husband off a 43 metre high bridge, with the shotover river below us.

However, as emotional and exciting as all the best moments were, nothing compares to time standing still for just a few seconds when we said ‘I do’

The soundtrack to our big day was…

It was a homage to our teenage years. I walked down the aisle to a live acoustic cover of The Used’s ‘I Caught Fire’. Sung by my rock star mother in law, and played on acoustic guitar by her band’s guitarist. The more intense punk version was played when Zach and I entered the reception venue.
Our first dance was to ‘Never Seen Anything Quite Like You’ by The Script.

We’d like to give a special mention to…

Which of your vendors deserves a special mention and why? Don’t worry, you’ll credit them all later.

I can’t choose just one. So many incredible people made this wedding unforgettable. Every last detail was perfection, and we cannot thank all our vendors enough!

But, shout out to our celebrant, Glennys Logan. I can’t recommend her enough. Thank you to Kat Porter from AJ Hackett Kawarau Bungy Centre, who made us feel like the most important people on the planet, and the crew there, who are so much fun.
To Silke Kellner from In2Food Catering. Thanks for braving the zipline!
And, Holly Wallace, your photography is simply unbelievable. I am still in awe to this day.

One unusual thing about our big day was…

A bungy jump & zipline reception! Not only did Zach & I bungy jump off a bridge together, and zipline across a canyon, but so did most of our guests. Can’t call us boring.

As a married couple we most look forward to…

The many more adventures that are yet to come.

The best advice we can give to other couples about to get married is…

“Don’t sweat the small stuff”
This can be easier said, than done. However, don’t let the little things, get to you. After months or years of planning, the day goes by in a flash. Take the time to actually enjoy it.

Love and electricity are one in the same, my dear. If you do not feel the jolt in your soul every time a kiss is shared, a whisper is
spoken, a touch is felt, then you're not really in love at all.
