Tell us about your love story!

We met via a mutual friend at a club. I was instantly drawn to him and we hit it off straight away. Ever since that first day we met, a day hasn’t gone by where we haven’t spoken to each other. We fell in love almost instantly and within a year we had moved in together and started planning our life together.

Just before our 4 year anniversary the best day of my life came, when he asked me to be his wife. He had always told me how we needed to go to the Grampians in Victoria together and walk all the way up to the Pinnacle. So we started the walk and it was the most physically challenging walk I’d ever done (I have no athletic ability whatsoever). So many times I stopped and wanted to go back but he kept urging me that ‘It will be worth it, trust me.’ I was thinking he was talking about the view we would see. We finally reached the top after 2 hours and I was so relieved and tired that I started crying and hugged him. That’s when he popped the question, when we were standing on top of the world. I obviously said yes and started crying even more.

Describe what marriage means to you.

What is the meaning of marriage?

Marriage means that you will always have a friend, you will always be loved and you will always have someone you can rely on. Marriage is the most special bond between two people that nobody can break. It tells the world that you love this one person enough that you are prepared to spend the rest of your life with them and create and share all the most important moments with them. You could not picture going through these moments with anybody else.

The wedding location.

Where was it? Why did you choose to get married here?

Our ceremony was at St Peter’s and Paul’s Catholic Church in South Melbourne. This location is simply beautiful and it is our regular church. It is where I (the bride) got baptized a year before our wedding so I hold it close to my heart.

Our reception was held at Roomba’s @ Mt Aitken in Gisborne South. I remember researching venues early on and coming across this one. The images took my breath away and I knew we had to go and view it. The moment we walked in we knew it was the one. It looked like something from a fairytale. We did no more searching after that.

The theme of your wedding.

Did you have a specific style or theme to your wedding? What was it?

We went with a romantic vibe I would say. We didn’t have a strict colour palette or certain style. We just wanted it to feel intimate and romantic. We had touches of blue with the bridesmaid’s dresses and flowers and we went a little elegant and rustic with the decorations.

The bride’s dress.

Tell us all about it! What was his reaction?

I first saw the dress on the Luv Bridal website and knew immediately that it was the one. I booked in an appointment with a few options noted down however and tried them all on. But as I suspected the Carris gown was most definitely the one. It had my mum, mother in law and all my bridesmaids in tears at the showroom.

All I remember, walking down the aisle is my husband’s face. He had the biggest smile on his face that I’d ever seen. I guess it meant that he liked what he saw!

Ceremony & reception.

Already answered above.

Wedding songs.

What were they? Did you do a specific dance?

We had a lesser known song by Cofey Anderson called Better Today for our bridal entrance. The lyrics are simply beautiful and it had 2 of our groomsmen, brothers of the groom, in tears at the end of the aisle.

For our first dance we had a slower acoustic version of Is This Love by Bob Marley. We had an acoustic duo, Jimmy and Niki perform all our songs at the ceremony and reception and they did an amazing job. We chose this song as my husband is a huge reggae and Bob Marley fan and said that when we had first met and in the lead up to us becoming official, he would always listen to Bob Marley, so now it reminds him of that time and of me

Food, food, food!

What did you cater?

Our reception prepares all their food on site. We had ravioli as an entree and a choice of greek lamb or creamy baked chicken as mains. Our cake flavours were Red Velvet or Fruits of the Forest. We had so many compliments from guests on the food saying it was the best wedding meals they had ever had!

Most memorable moment.

The moment you find most memorable on your wedding day.

I have always loved to sing and used to attend lessons growing up. Everyone knew it was inevitable that I would sing at our wedding. However, I still wanted to surprise my husband in some way. He and his family are El Salvadorian and their first language is Spanish. I decided to learn an entire song in Spanish to sing in front of all our guests at the reception. I do not know how to speak Spanish, only very basic words. I was super nervous the night before and that morning to perform but it was the best thing I ever did. Everybody was so surprised and moved by it.

What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?

Now that you have done it, what would you share as a piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding.

Do not compare your wedding to others. Don’t think that you need to have a massive budget and go all out to have the perfect day. In the end, every wedding is unique to that couple and nothing else matters but the both of you. The only thing that you need, in order to have the perfect day is lots and lots of love.

Favourite love quote.

What quote have you read that you love?

Love is the closest thing we have to magic.

What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?

Travelling the world together, waking up every morning and going to bed every night with each other. Making beautiful memories and eventually, starting a family.
