Our love story began…

I bumped into an old friend from high school I hadn’t seen in years and was invited to a party that coming weekend. That’s the night Mike and I met. We didn’t talk to each other but kept locking eyes all night. Our friendship group became like family, and we remained friends for over a year. Throughout that year we saw each other go through different stages of life. We finally gave into our chemistry and started officially dating at midnight one New Year’s Eve and the rest is history.

The proposal was…

Mike arranged a surprise holiday to Bali for my birthday. Now looking back I should have put two and two together, but a proposal was the last thing I thought was going to happen. After a day exploring Bali, we were in our villa having a late-night swim and drinks. Mike disappeared for a few minutes and when I turned around, he was kneeling next to the pool holding a little box. I was in complete shock; Mike said the most beautiful things and all I remember is getting out of the pool and crying in his arms. It was honestly perfect. Just us, no frills, completely raw and real.

We wanted our wedding to be…

We wanted our wedding to be ‘us’. Heartfelt, fun, relaxed, romantic and real. It’s easy to get carried away trying to plan the perfect wedding, so early on we made a list of a few things that were important to us and decided not to stress about the rest.

My dress was…

My Mum and I decided to book an appointment at Luv Bridal, Brisbane. I went in thinking I wanted a mermaid style wedding dress and never in my wildest dreams would have expected to pick the dress I did.

The girls were amazing, bringing me lots of different styles and encouraging me to try them all.

As soon as I saw my dress on, my Mum and I burst out crying. It was better than I had imagined, and I knew it was the one.

The best moment of the day…

Walking down the aisle would have to be the best moment. I thought I would be so nervous but as soon as I saw Mike, my nerves vanished. We both cried and hugged, and I suddenly felt complete. I will never forget that moment.

The soundtrack to our big day was…

Firestone – Kygo ft. Conrad Sewell played when we cut our wedding cake, fireworks rained over the Conservatory glass ceiling… it was magic!

One unusual thing about our big day was…

Mike decided the week of our wedding that he wanted Summer (our Golden Retriever) to attend for photos. We ordered a dog collar online and it was too big. With Summer being so excited to see everyone after our ceremony, she slipped her collar and quite literally galloped around our guests with her muddy paws. I think I nearly had a heart attack; we were so lucky she didn’t jump on anyone!

As a married couple we most look forward to…

Finishing our house renovations, ticking a few more destinations off our bucket list and starting our own little family.

The best advice we can give to other couples about to get married is…

Don’t sweat the small stuff!
