Congratulations to Stephanie & Keenan
WEDDING DATE: 1st October 2016
NUMBER OF GUESTS: 80
Tell us about your love story!
Keenan and I met at the Glen Hotel in 2012, while we were both out with friends. I was lining up behind him at a bar and noticed that he was wearing a suit (quite overdressed for a pub), I asked why and we’ve spoken every day since.
Keenan proposed while we were holidaying in Europe in 2014. We were in a tiny town in Austria over Christmas. It was Christmas night and it had finally started snowing, so he suggested that we go for a walk before dinner. We strolled around the Christmas markets and through the little park near our hotel where he got down on one knee in the snow. I said yes of course! We then called all our family back home, waking them up in the wee hours of the morning, but they didn’t mind at all.
What is the meaning of marriage to you?
Marriage means you want to spend the rest of your life with this person and you are willing to put that person first, beyond anything or anyone. It means getting to wake up every day with your best friend, feeling loved and supported unconditionally.
The wedding location.
We had our ceremony and reception at Albert River Winery, Tamborine. The ceremony was held in the vineyard chapel, it is a beautiful historic chapel that was exactly what we were looking for. We then had our reception on Tamborine House Verandah, it overlooked the vineyard and beyond to Tamborine Mountain. We wanted something a little bit different and Albert River Winery had just the right atmosphere and was absolutely gorgeous.
What was the inspiration behind your wedding theme / vibe?
The theme of our wedding was Rustic Romance. We wanted it to be very laid back and full of love and laughter.
I wore the CARRIS by Mia Solano. It was just perfect!! It was a strapless A-line dress with a sweetheart neckline and lace embellishment. It was the dress I went in to try on and nothing else I put on could compare to the way I felt in this dress. Everyone loved it, I was showered with compliments about how amazing I looked. I was so glad Keenan loved it as well, he cried as I walked down the aisle.
Ceremony & reception.
We wanted to have our wedding all in one place so that we could make the most of the day without any time spent travelling elsewhere. Another reason why Albert River Winery was perfect. I was able to get ready that morning in the cottage on the winery, then after the ceremony guests could enjoy cocktail hour on the bocce field before heading into Tamborine House to have dinner on the verandah. It was also such a picturesque location for wedding photos!
I walked down the aisle to ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ by Ingrid Michaelson, it was such a beautiful version of the song and suited our ceremony and our love story wonderfully.
Our first dance was to ‘Feels Like Home’ by Martha Marlow, because it doesn’t matter where we are, as long as I have Keenan by my side it feels like home.
The father daughter dance was to ‘I Believe in You’ by Don Williams, this was meant to be my parents wedding song, but there was a mix up on their wedding day!
Food, food, food!
The food at Albert River Winery was just divine. After falling in love with the venue we were very hopeful the food would be just as good and they didn’t let us down.
For entrée there was spinach and feta cannelloni with herb hollandaise or wonton rice basket served with Asian salad and sliced beef with mild chilli sauce.
For main there was chicken breast filled with sundried tomato with a cream jus Marinated garlic or rosemary French trimmed lamb cutlets with mashed potato and steamed vegetables.
We served our wedding cake for dessert. I contemplated making my own wedding cake, but after trying the cake from Ann’s unique cakes we couldn’t resist serving it at our wedding. We had three tiers consisting of red velvet mud cake and lemon lime mud cake.
Most memorable moment.
The most memorable moment of the whole day would be the ceremony. I was so nervous in the lead up to the wedding that I would trip down the aisle or mix up my vows. But on the day I was so calm, all I saw when we entered the chapel was Keenan standing there. I remember holding his hands and looking into his eyes and everything else just melted away. I was completely unaware of anyone else in the chapel and all my nerves just disappeared.
What about the extra details?
I wanted to put our personality into our wedding so I did a lot of DIY when it came to the décor. We made our bomboniere, little jars filled with heart shaped mints that said ‘mint to be’ on the front, we labeled these with little brown tags and used them as our place cards too. I painted a lot of blackboards with quotes and information for the day. We made all the centerpieces, my father made all the planter boxes and then my mother and bridesmaids helped me arrange all flowers the day before the wedding. We did the invitations ourselves too. I think all these little things really helped make the day one we will never forget.
What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
The best advice would be to be organised. I booked all the major things very early on in the whole process (venue, pastor, photographer, cake) and tried to do any big jobs a few months out (invitations, programs, bomboniere) so in the lead up everything was quite stress-free.
Favourite love quote.
“I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I’ve ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours. ” ― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook.
What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?
Starting a new chapter of our lives and being able to call my best friend my husband.
