Congratulations to Lucy & James
NUMBER OF GUESTS: 80
WEDDING DATE: 10th September 2016
Tell us about your love story!
We met on New Year ’s Eve 2013 (going into 2014). We both helped to set up and also went to a New Year’s Party at James brothers place. I was good friends with Ben’s at the time fiancé Megan (now his wife and my sister in law). We pretty much hit it off straight away and then spent a few months “dating” before deciding to become “official”.
James took me to the beach in Goolwa on the 27th of December 2015 for what I thought was a nice summer’s day at the beach. After an epic day of travelling (we live in Gawler) we sat down and before I knew it James was in front of me with the most beautiful ring asking me to marry him!!! It was the best day and we took lots of lovely photos including writing “we just got engaged” in the sand.
What is the meaning of marriage to you?
Marriage to me is two people sharing their lives together and growing and supporting each other through all the challenges in life. It is living with your best friend and sharing a bond that is unique to the two of you.
The wedding location.
Gomersal Wines; Living in Gawler area we often visit the Barossa, when we attended gourmet in August 2015 Megan and Ben suggested we should look at the inside venue at Gomersal. James came back smitten and said to me “We will get married here” and we were not even ENGAGED!
Once we got engaged I asked if we were still going to have it at Gomersal and the dates we had available were free and we were able to afford it so we locked it in and it was the perfect venue for us.
What was the inspiration behind your wedding theme / vibe?
Rustic theme with a touch of vintage. Blush and Blue.
My dress was perfect for me! I didn’t want a ball gown and I didn’t want too much fuss. I was looking mainly at lace and I wanted capped sleeves but also wanted an ‘old world/vintage’ look. When I went dress shopping I was starting to worry I was never going to find anything. Luv Bridal was actually the last place I went to but it was the place I was most excited about. When I had looked online I knew the styles were what I was looking for and I was able to find a whole range of styles that met my criteria. We found the dress I decided on through a process of elimination and when I tried it on I just knew. I remember crying saying “I think this is the one” and all my bridesmaids and shop assistants were crying too. It was a memory I will always treasure.
My most memorable moment of our day was greeting James at the ceremony and him saying to me “Bub you look amazing”. The expression on his face said it all.
Ceremony & reception.
Guests listened to live music from “Little Big Words” while we had location photos taken at Cimicky Wines.
I walked down the aisle to “Somewhere over the rainbow” It was beautiful as “Little Big Words” performed their own version of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s version.
Our first dance was to “All of Me’ by John Legend.
We walked into our reception to “Best day of my life” by American Authors.
We left our reception to “Time of my Life” from dirty dancing.
Food, food, food!
Our food from Owen Andrews catering was exquisite.
Our menu consisted of Entree – Twice cooked pork belly with apples two ways OR Marinated quail leek and mushroom tartlet. Main – crispy skinned duck breast with sausage containing duck leg, pork belly and nacho pear OR Eye fillet of beef with a potato gratin, roasted spring onions, mushroom and wilted spinach. Dessert – Homemade lemon curd tartlet with fresh jersey cream.
We had raving reviews from our guests about our food.
Most memorable moment.
The whole day was just magical. In keeping with our theme we did a lot of DIY such as making our wedding stationery. The invitations and menus were sealed with our personal label of a wreath and L & J and were keeping in the rustic look. We also had a wedding signing board and a welcome sign made up from Unlimited Function Art (on Facebook) which also matched our personal label. We gave our guests “Giant Freckles” from Melbra’s Chocolates and also made our own label with a “Thank you”.
What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
Do it together as much as you can. James and I discussed every detail of our wedding and were very much on the “same page” with little touches. Every decision we made came back to the look we wanted to achieve and the feeling of relaxed but beautiful.
What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?
