Congratulations to Jasmine & Taylor
WEDDING DATE: 2nd December, 2016
NUMBER OF GUESTS: 35
Tell us about your love story!
Taylor and I met in October of 2014, after both swiping right on Tinder. We had played a game of 21 questions before we met, and both thought we would really like each other, however when we first met, it was very awkward, and was in fact the worst date I had been on.
My best friend Sophie (bridesmaid), convinced me to see him again, as I had thought I would like him so much. By January of 2015 we were dating. I lived on North Stradbroke Island, with my parents, and Taylor lived in Murrumba Downs, so we were unable to see each other except on weekends. As I didn’t have a car, Taylor would drive to pick me up from the boat, and then back to his house, each weekend.
Thankfully we each met and grew to love each other’s friends and family. In April of 2016, we had a BBQ for Taylors 26th birthday, with our friends and family on Straddie. We did the North Gorge walk with our friends, and on North Gorge rock, Taylor asked to me marry him. As it was the 2nd of April, my first response was to ask “This isn’t a joke is it?”, but of course after that I said yes.
What is the meaning of marriage to you?
I believe marriage is the ultimate commitment you can make to the one you love. It is more than living with them, or telling them you love them. It binds you legally, you share a name, can share accounts, and each action. By marrying someone you are joining yourself to them wholly, holding nothing back, and sharing yourself completely.
The wedding location.
We were married in South Gorge on North Stradbroke Island (NSI). As I grew up on NSI, I had always imagined being married there, in such a beautiful location, which was so personally meaningful to myself and to my family. Taylor also loved his weekends on the island, which he often refers to as ‘mini-holidays’.
We tried to keep the wedding and the styling very basic. In terms of decorations I liked white, browns, shells, driftwood and fairy lights – things which I feel only reflect and enhance the natural beauty of the beach.
For the atmosphere, we chose to have a small wedding, so that we could both spend more time with each of our guests and create a more relaxed and intimate feeling.
The girls at the Harbour Town outlet actually chose my dress for me. It wasn’t at all what I was looking for, but it was absolutely stunning, and I felt very beautiful in it. Unfortunately I was too far away/not wearing sunglasses to be able to properly see Taylors reaction, but we do have a very sweet photo of him covering his face with his hands, as if to control his emotions.
Ceremony and reception.
The ceremony was at South Gorge, and we chose to do family photos there. Photos with the Bridal Party were taken at North Gorge rock – the place where we were engaged. The reception was held at the Sand Bar at Whales Way Restaurant, for a relaxed vibe.
Ceremony song – I Choose You by Sara Bareilles performed by Christopher Watts (brother of the bride).
Food, food, food!
Variety of Hot & Cold Canapes.
Most memorable moment.
Reception; cutting of cake & speeches. Lots of laughter, smiles, and jesting.
What about the extra details?
Brides Great Uncle Pastor Nick Watson officiated the ceremony. Who also performed the marriage ceremony for her parents Jonathan & Nicole Watts.
What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
If you are planning with your family, listen to them. People often say that it is your day, and it is all about you, that’s not true. Your family and your friends have supported and loved you all the way up until this day, and this day is important for them also. Don’t let them run the whole show, but think about them and their feelings and opinions when you make your decisions.
“And remember, as it was written, to love another person is to see the face of God.” – Les Miserable
What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?
