A Spanish style wedding adorned with red and white and a backyard draped in fairy lights and candles. Very relaxed and romantic.

WEDDING DATE: 11 April 2015

Tell us about your love story!

We met at a hiphop gig. Boy meets girl, girl rejects boy then feels bad and runs after him to ask for his name. He wanted my number but I wasn’t willing to give it to him so we Facebooked for a little bit before we decided to go on our first date. Tough love haha.

He proposed at the Fingal Head lighthouse lookout while a pod of dolphins jumped and played in the water infront of us with an interim dolphin engagement ring. I absolutely love dolphins and this spot is one of my favorites. I say interim dolphin ring because he had planned to give me his great grandmothers ring which I now wear.

Describe what marriage means to you.

Picking your forever person. A person to spend the rest of your days with. You will always remain two individual people, but in the company of each other.

The wedding location.

Ceremony: Buderim Foote Sanctuary

Reception: Grooms parents backyard. His sister was the first to get married there and now us. I guess you can call it a family tradition!

The theme of your wedding.

Spanish Sevilla Feria. I was born in Sevilla and every April they hold a week long fair where you dance Sevillanas (a form of flamenco) and drink and eat Spanish cuisine.

Everything was DIY and then we hired ottomans and bar tables from Splash events. The colours were red and white. The entire backyard was draped in fairy lights and candles. Very relaxed and romantic. The red and white paper lanterns paid hommage to the streets of the Feria.

The bride’s dress.

It is a Mia Solano that was altered to have a sweet heart neck line and a bustle so that I could dance a Sevillana comfortably. He looked happy and humbled.

Wedding songs.

I walked down the aisle to Salma Hayeks “Siente mi Amor”, theme song from Desperado and then we were announced husband and wife to Gypsy Kings Bamboleo.

As for dance, we didn’t have a typical first dance. Instead I danced a Sevillana to my late fathers favorite flamenco song to commemorate him. It was exceptionally emotional. The song talks about your heart yearning over a lost friend and now mine yearns over losing him, my best friend.

Food, food, food!

We had Spanish cuisine catered by the lovely team at Pacos Paella. My fathers name was Paco, so very fitting. We had a casual, yet elegant, cocktail reception. Guests were served Tapas as entrée, Paella for main that was cooked before their eyes and instead of cake we had CHURROS of course.

Most memorable moment.

My hubby Serenading me to Frankie Sinatra

What about the extra details?

Both of us are hiphop fans and we have bonded over music. In our vows, without prior knowledge, we each coincidently quoted a hip hop song by Method Man titled “You’re all I need”

I quoted “You’re all I need to get by”

Groom quoted “My queen with a crown, that be down for whatever”

May not sound romantic but it is real and it is honest.

What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?

Please don’t go crazy and Bridezilla on everyone. A wedding is a celebration not a circus. Stay humble.

Favourite love quote.

Don’t put too much pressure on marriage. Stay your own person and share your life experiences with them. Respect one another because love alone isn’t enough. It’s not a quote but it’s so true.

What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?

Travelling the world, creating memories that make for crazy stories, cooking dinner at home and having Saturday night parties, seeing hubby age and saying “remember when we used to…” and being the most off beat couple that defies all marriage stereotypes!
