Elaina & Alfie

I choose you, and I’ll keep choosing you over & over again.

– Hyde Park, Perth

WEDDING DATE: 28th November 2015

Elaine’s favourite quote “I choose you, and I’ll keep choosing you over and over again. Without pause, without doubt I stand here and choose you, forever” has us all giddy over this beautiful love story.

Tell us about your love story!

Alfie and I were childhood sweethearts and met when we were 15 & 17 years old. Our love story wasn’t all hearts and flowers and for a while we didn’t think we’d ever end up here. Our mutual loss of parents to cancer when we were young gave us a unique opinion on everlasting love but through the years we were never far from each other’s minds. I guess what they say about the third times the charm as we gave our love story one last shot and it seemed through those years we’d both grown up and grown into people capable of the everlasting kind of love.
Alfie proposed to me on my 24th birthday in our favorite spot in Perth, Kings Park. As a highly organized individual I was confident I could pull together a wedding in less than 12 months, and I did!
The wedding was everything we’ve ever dreamed of and an outrageously happy affair!

Describe what marriage means to you.

Marriage to me means putting someone else first, before myself. Listening to another opinion even when I’m sure I’m right, thinking what they want & need before what I do, allowing them to hold a piece of me & trusting that they won’t break it.

The wedding location.

We got married at Hyde Park in Perth. The same way Alfie proposed in a lush garden location, and as people who love picnics and relaxing outside, we decided it was the perfect mix of us as a couple & a perfect place to celebrate love.

The theme of your wedding.

Without having an exact theme, I would say the tones of our wedding were young love & classic elegance. The colour scheme was white and pale gold (champagne) with a burst of navy (in the groom’s suit). The reception venue brought classic elegance with soaring ceilings & golden chandeliers.

The bride’s dress.

My dress was a brilliant white mermaid cut gown with a box & dip bust line and pearl & crystal embellishments on the right ribs & left hip. It was a corset which made me feel tiny & beautiful which is exactly what you want on your wedding day. Alfie adored the dress & I’m planning to keep it to pass along to my own daughter one day.

Ceremony & reception.

The ceremony & reception were in different locations, Ceremony at Hyde Park and reception at Four Points Sheraton hotel. The allowed me to have the outside ceremony I wanted but a reception with no risk of the weather interfering. I also was able to invite any more guests to the ceremony that we just couldn’t hold at the reception.

Wedding songs.

I walked down the aisle to the song Georgia by Vance Joy as I heard it one day, the morning of the day Alfie planned to propose, and turned to him and said I want to walk down the aisle to this song. Poor guy nearly scared him to death thinking I somehow knew what was to come that night!

Our first dance song was Until the End of Time by Justin Timeberlake – one of the first concerts we went to as a couple.

Food, food, food!

Keeping our guests fed was important so we opted for a 3 course sit down meal with canapés to start & then a crocoumbouche as well!

The standout items were the desert, a chocolate gelato scoop encased in a hard chocolate, nut & waver shell with raspberry coulis. Then we neither of us wanted a cake we had a towering crocoumbouche with Grand Marnier custard inside.

Most memorable moment.

For me that was when I walked down the aisle and saw Alfie, and said to myself “Yes, he’s crying”, only it turns out I wasn’t as quiet as I thought and Alfie plus all the guests burst into laughter! It broke the nerve wrecking moment and made us both feel at ease, everything went perfectly after that.

What about the extra details?

One of the extra details that was very important to us both was that our parents who were no longer with us would be remembered. Alfie lost his mother & I lost my father to cancer when we were both young so instead of a gift to each guest we made a donation to the cancer council of WA in their honor. I also had a charm made of a picture of my father and had that entwined in my bouquet so he could still walk me down the aisle.

What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?

Don’t let the frantic planning stages overtake the excitement of being engaged and planning a life with someone. You can get so caught up in everything having to be perfect but when it gets to that day all that matters is you marry the one that you love.

Favourite love quote.

I choose you, and I’ll keep choosing you over and over again. Without pause, without doubt I stand here and choose you, forever.

What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?

Being a Husband & Wife! All the silly fights and inconsequential arguments just fade away when you get to call yourself his wife.
