Tell us about your love story!
We had met through some friends of ours when we had both been out for drinks in our home town, we had caught each other’s eye the first night but neither of us plucked up the courage to introduce ourselves. Unbeknown to us at the time but we had both asked our mutual friend about each other the next day, the second night I went back to the same place I saw Scott and sure enough he was there so after a hour or two of catching each other’s glances from across the room we finally met officially.
Scott proposed to me when we were holidaying at the Sunshine Coast for Christmas in 2013, we had already had our son and I was pregnant with our daughter, we stopped at a park that had a wonderful view and as our son was playing he got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him, I was so shocked I didn’t know if I needed to faint or scream. Needless to say I gave a quick yes with what breath I had left and got that ring on my finger as quick as I could.
What is the meaning of marriage to you?
Marriage to us means being a family all with the same last name. It means being able to say that your best friend is also your husband/wife. Overall it means that no matter where we are in the world as long as we are together we are home.
The wedding location.
We got married on my dad’s farm where I grew up alongside the lagoon in our hometown of Kyogle (Northern NSW). We chose this location because it is absolutely picturesque and the farm I grew up on. Scott and my dad worked very hard getting the ceremony spot ready and cleaned up in preparation for the big day but not without a few cold beers together after a hard day’s work.
What was the inspiration behind your wedding theme / vibe?
My dress was a little vintage but the ceremony and reception had a lot of whites with peach and gold accents.
It was a beautiful ivory, fitted dress with ¾ off the shoulder lace sleeves and a cathedral length veil. It hugged me in all the right places and I felt like a queen all day in it, I didn’t want to take it off!. I have a loud outgoing personality so I think he was expecting me in a big frilly ball gown type dress. He looked pleasantly surprised he didn’t have to wrestle layer upon layer of dress to get the first kiss.
Ceremony & reception.
I wouldn’t change a thing! It was amazing from start to finish, we had the reception at the Kyogle Golf Club and it was amazing service from them and they were so accommodating to our needs. Coincidentally the golf club was being freshly painted around the time of our wedding and they made sure they had the reception room painted first so it looked wonderful for our wedding!
I walked down the aisle to Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer and in a bit of humour we walked out to Signed Sealed Delivered by Stevie Wonder.
We had our first dance to Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud.
Food, food, food!
We had a water station and beers for after the ceremony at the farm then at the reception we had alternate drop entrees of Seafood baskets or meatballs and mains of roast lamb or pork and the wedding cake for dessert.
Most memorable moment.
When I was arriving I looked over and saw our son Jax in his little suit standing at the feet of my husband to be.
What about the extra details?
The reception was AWESOME! We had a band called Kharnage and they were great. The atmosphere was amazing!
What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
Don’t sweat the small stuff, just enjoy the day!
Favourite love quote.
