Desiree & Toby Preston
WEDDING DATE: 24 April 2016
GUEST NUMBERS: 60
Tell us about your love story!
I sat in front of him in an Advertising tutorial at Curtin University and we eventually became group mates, which led to study dates in the library and King’s Park dates.
He proposed in our house when I least expected it.
Describe what marriage means to you.
Marriage is a commitment to journey through the ups and downs of life without giving up on each other, being there for each other, and overcoming challenges together. Team mates, till death do us part.
The wedding location.
We chose to get married in Perth – Groom is from Perth, Bride is from Singapore, but living in Perth for 7 years. Having it in Perth meant being able to have a more intimate wedding (minimising the guest list).
The theme of your wedding.
The bride’s dress.
Bellerose by Mia Solano. I loved it from the moment I tried it on. It was very ‘me’. He loved my dress choice and was in tears as soon as he saw me walking down the aisle.
Ceremony & Reception
Different locations – Ceremony was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guildford, and the Reception was at Darlington Estate Winery.
We had a number of meaningful (to us) songs.
Pachelbel Canon in D – I walked down the aisle to this song as it’s the first piano piece I played for Toby when we started dating.
“Funny Funny” by The Sweet was the song we walked out of the church to – a favourite of ours.
“Magic” by Coldplay was our First dance song. We didn’t do a specific dance, but it was romantic and memorable.
Food, food, food!
The venue offered a 3 course menu.
Most memorable moment.
Walking down the aisle and seeing my husband’s face as he started crying when he saw me.
What about the extra details?
I loved planning the wedding, making most of the decorations and all the stationery, and the wedding cake. It was all about the wedding being personal and intimate for us.
What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
Spreadsheets! I loved my spreadsheets and it helped me to be organised. Also, enjoy every minute of it. 13 months of planning went by so quickly, as did the day itself. Pause and take a moment to make memories that you can reflect on later.
Favourite love quote.
“I vow to fiercely love you in all your forms, now and forever, I promise to never forget that this is a once in a lifetime love. And to always know in the deepest part of my soul that no matter what challenges might carry us apart, we will always find our way back to each other.” – from The Vow.
What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?
Starting a family together.
