Congratulations to Colette & Nathan!
WEDDING DATE: 11th February 2017
NUMBER OF GUESTS: 65
Tell us about your love story.
We met in January 2011 in Anglesea (Victoria), I was on a temporary visa from the UK and met this lovely country boy! 4 years later he popped the question in the most romantic way on top of a lookout point in the Adelaide Hills. He took me away on a surprise weekend (I had no idea what we were doing) he proposed in a series of envelopes, the actual story is too long to tell but it’s a beautiful one!
Describe what marriage means to you.
Finding someone who you know you are meant to be with, your best friend, soul mate, spending a life time together creating memories and experiencing adventures.
The wedding location.
We got married on the beach in Barwon Heads. The actual spot of the wedding was next to the old jetty on the corner of Ozone Street and Flinders Parade, it was a beautiful day (the rain held off long enough till we were inside!) We wanted to get married here as the beach we chose was just beautiful and a location where it wasn’t going to be hit by too much wind!
The theme of your wedding.
We opted for personal touches to the wedding and family members helped to create signs and centre pieces, the wedding had a rustic feel to it with lots and lots of fairy lights (I’m a tad obsessed!) We went for native flowers, roses and succulents which worked really well with everything else.
I absolutely loved my dress, although I have to admit it wasn’t love at first sight, but when I tried it on, I knew I could see Nathan on the beach with a huge smile on his face (and that he did!) He loved that it had a low back and he said it was very me. His reaction was beautiful, grinned from ear to ear!
Ceremony & reception.
Ceremony was on the beach in Barwon Heads and the Reception was a short 5 minute journey up the road to Barwon Heads Resort at 13th Beach.
Our wedding song was Xavier Rudd “Follow the Sun”, this song has a special meaning to Nathan and I, and it was lovely to be played at our wedding. We danced to a live version of the Hunters and Collectors “Throw your arms around me”. Nathan picked this song and the sentiment behind it is just beautiful.
Food, food, food!
We wanted to be a bit different! To start with, we had some canapes and for the main event, we catered a Gourmet BBQ! From scotch fillets, to cranskys (polish heritage), chicken skewers, lamb cutlets, a selection of salads and then the wedding cake for dessert! (a lemon cake with white chocolate buttercream – YUM!) Everything was just amazing and our guests commented on how enjoyable the food was.
Most memorable moment.
The most memorable moment has to be the moment I locked eyes with Nathan and he saw me in my dress on the beach, it was magical and I couldn’t take the coat hanger out of my mouth
What about the extra details?
My parents and brother along with my maid of honour who flew 10,500 miles from the UK to be here for the wedding meant the world to me.
What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
Planning the wedding can be stressful but not if your organized. Stay on top of the financials, when vendors need to be paid, plan ahead of time. A running schedule works really well for the actual day. Advice? Enjoy the day to its fullest, take everything in and live in the moment.
Favourite love quote.
Not exactly a love quote but something that has stuck with us throughout our relationship: “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift” Living each day in the moment.
What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?
Enjoying married life for a couple of years, travelling together and settling down to start a family creating memories to last a lifetime.
Did you Have Videographer?
Yes, he was fantastic, Richard Earl from Enriched Productions, he really captured every moment and it’s amazing to be able to relive the day.
