TELL US ABOUT YOUR LOVE STORY!

Michael and I met in high school when we were 15 years old. We were introduced through a mutual friend and my best friend (who was also my Maid of Honour, Suzanne) and I just started to hang out with his group of friends. Our friendship continued to blossom throughout our final years of high school and then he told me he liked me when we were on ‘Schoolies’ together (but I had another boyfriend at the time) so nothing came of it. During our second year of university, we got together and have been together ever since.

Michael popped the question while we were holidaying in Thailand over the New Years break. He got down on one knee in Bangkok whilst the fireworks went off at midnight on New Years Eve. It was an amazing experience despite me being very sick (food poisoning). It was a funny story because we were out and I was really sick so I went to bed at 10pm. Then he woke me up and pretty much forced me outside to watch the fireworks so when he proposed, I was in my pj’s with no make up on and my ‘bed hair’ in the middle of the street. I was also pretty grumpy that he had dragged me out and went to yell at him because as he was getting the ring out of his pocket, I thought he was getting the camera out to take a photo of me!!! But when he got down on one knee with a box, I suddenly realized what was happening and didn’t feel so sick anymore! Everyone around us was cheering and congratulating us, it was just amazing!!

DESCRIBE WHAT MARRIAGE MEANS TO YOU.

Marriage is when two souls become one. We honestly believe that marriage is a lifelong commitment where you treasure each other in good times and in bad for the rest of your lives. One of our favourite quote is, “Everyone’s love story is beautiful but ours is my favourite!”

THE WEDDING LOCATION.

We got married on the beautiful Hamilton Island in the gorgeous All Saints Chapel. Our reception was at the stunning Outrigger Function Venue which was at the end of Catseye Beach.

We chose to get married there because Michael wanted a destination wedding and I have always had a special place in my heart for Hamilton Island because I went there when I was 12 on our first family holiday. After attending a mass at the Chapel, the priest asked me to ring the bell and then on our wedding day as we were leaving as man and wife, we rang the bell together. Little did I know when I was 12 that the next time I would be ringing that bell would be at my wedding with my husband!!

THE THEME OF YOUR WEDDING.

Our theme was a very rustic one- birdcages and little tea light candles, lots of bunting and very personalised. Michael’s aunty nicknamed us ‘Lovebirds’ since we started dating and so that theme also played a big part in our wedding. Everything was lovebird related- our bonbonierre, our seating chart, our table centerpieces and more.

We wanted a very relaxed and intimate vibe where people could enjoy each others company and our guests said that is exactly how they felt.

THE BRIDE’S DRESS.

My dress was the first dress I tried on but it definitely was NOT ‘luv at first sight’. I had a completely different picture of the dress I wanted so I did not even want to try that dress on (even though my Maid of Honour picked it off the rack). The beautiful women at Luv Bridal in Melbourne gave me a little push and dressed me up with a veil and accessories. As I walked out and I passed a mirror, I immediately burst into tears because I knew this was the dress!! My entourage (my mum, my mother in law, MOH, my Nanna and my cousin) also cried when they saw me and we knew this was it.

When I walked down the aisle, my husband’s eyes widened and his jaw dropped! He absolutely loved my dress and every other little detail about me. He could not stop staring- I felt like the most beautiful woman in the world.

CEREMONY & RECEPTION.

Ceremony- All Saints Chapel

Reception- Outrigger Function Centre

WEDDING SONGS

Our first dance song was ‘Lucky’ by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat which was sung by my little brother and my Maid of Honour!!! It was a surprise and an unreal experience!!

My daddy-daughter dance was also memorable but for a different reason! My dad and I were dancing to ‘Butterfly Kisses’ by Bob Carisle and half way through, ‘Gangam Style’ came on!!!! After exchanging surprised glances between each other and the bridal party, we just went with it! It livened up the atmosphere and got our guests involved!!

FOOD, FOOD, FOOD!

Canapes included spinach and ricotta frittata squares, mushroom arancini with truffle aioli, peking duck rolls and smoked salmon and cream cheese pinwheels. Our guests loved our canapés and the wonderful staff met us out the back before we entered with some for us to have which is exactly what we needed after our long day!!

Alternating entrees

  • 1.Beef carpaccio, baby salted capers, Spanish onion, extra virgin olive oil & mustard cress
  • 2.Seared scallops, cauliflower puree, crispy pancetta & micro salad

Alternating mains

  • 1.Corn fed chicken breast, sweet potato mash, asparagus & tarragon jus
  • 2.Herb & garlic crusted lamb rack, kipfler potato, crushed peas & minted sauce

Deserts

Chef’s selection of mini desserts plattered to the table

Wedding cake (2 tiers of Coconut, Lime and Macadamia and 1 tier of chocolate mud)

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT.

I had so many memorable moments on my wedding day, I honestly can’t pick! The speeches are words I will never forget, as were my dances (especially my surprise dance with my Nanna) and so was seeing Michael’s face light up as I walked down the aisle!!

WHAT ABOUT THE EXTRA DETAILS?

Our wedding celebrations were a week long because our guests started arriving on the Tuesday and left the following Tuesday!! It was amazing riding around the island in our golf buggies and seeing people everywhere we went. Our family and friends literally took over the island!!

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE A BRIDE AND GROOM PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Enjoy every second of it and start planning early. Pay off as much as you can slowly so you don’t have many lump sums that need to be paid. All the hard work WILL pay off and don’t let anyone or anything ruin your special day (be upset about the ‘hiccups’ the next day)!!!!

FAVOURITE LOVE QUOTE.

“Marriage is not about two perfect people coming together, it is about two imperfect people who refuse to give up on each other!”

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FORWARD TO MOST AS MR. & MRS.?

Living happily ever after!
